After dropping off my family at Ohare I wanted to eat breakfast and found Los Chapines Tortelleria and it was amazing. The desayuno chapin was delicious!! The breakfast was exactly what I ate growing up. The flavor was there! The service was great they were friendly and several options. Love finding new Guatemalan restaurants!

So, Hubby and I have been coming to this establishment since its conception. We L.O.V.E. The atmosphere. Legitimately Ordered Various Entrées Since Carl died in 2006 we've been dubious of taco slingers, but decided to give this place a shot back when it opened. Now we are H.O.O.K.E.D. Hardly Obvious Ordering Kitchen Entrées Delight! Tell it, smell it, or sell it, we well it. As in: well done ladies and germs! Thanks for the eggceptional eggsperience

After spending 40 minutes on yelp trying to figure out where to get a late dinner, Los Chapines Tortilleria piqued my interest. While it was a risk to try a new eatery 20 minutes before they closed, I took the chance, called them and asked if it was okay to order, the friendly voice on the other end said "of course, we don't close until 9:30". After getting a few questions answered and learning the difference between a standard tamale and a Guatemalan tamale, I dashed over to pickup my food. After I chatted with the gentleman for a few minutes about how long they'd been open (since 2020) and how business was going (slowly improving) I headed home with my surprisingly heavy, steaming, well packaged order. I opened the bags to some of the tastiest pastor tacos I've ever had. Tender, flavorful, fresh and the green and red sauce, though a little thin, complemented the juicy meat perfectly. The tamale, while flavorful and beautiful wrapped in the banana leaf, was not my favorite texturally. The portion size was like 2-3 regular tamales. So, pretty hefty. Can't wait to head back and try more food. Price was very reasonable, excellent service and food was hot and fresh, even though I ordered right before closing, which is something that I'm not trying to make a habit. Anyway, please go here, order the pastor tacos and thank me later!!

Food was very good. I ended up with chilaquiles (with chicken breast) and my friend got the pupusas and dobladas. Really solid, and I appreciate the subtle differences in flavors between the Guatamalan dishes and standard Mexican fare. However, only 4/5 because ordering (in English) was difficult. I tried to get grilled skirt steak and a green chicken enchilada (as a single item, listed that way on the menu) but what was originally brought out was 3 green chicken enchiladas. I explained the issue and thought it was clear but ended up getting brought the chilaquiles. My friend got his pupusas but the dobladas was not brought and had to be ordered again. The food was delicious and I'm not a picky eater so this wasn't a huge deal, but others that need to order a specific thing, in English, may have trouble. I will be back though, and I will brush up on my Spanish.

Was looking for something to fulfill Taco Tuesday... found this by accident. We stopped in it was 8pm. Was a bit worried because the place was empty, but decided to give it a shot. Glad we stopped. The food was delicious! It has Mexican food options and Guatemalan food options. Portions were pretty hefty. The tortillas that are given with dinner were homemade, but the tortillas that are used for the tacos are not. But it was ok it was still yummy.

My new favorite Guatemalan restaurant! I had the pepian which was so delicious with rice and homemade potato salad and handmade tortillas. Hubby had breakfast, rice, beans, eggs and handmade tortillas. I also order a rice and chicken tamale which was so huge I didn't even open it but rather took it home to have for lunch tomorrow. Definitely worth the drive for us city folks definitely coming back. Next time I'm getting atole.
